La Grande Guerre dans la littérature populaire et dans le roman d’aventures et d’évasion

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: La Grande Guerre des écrivains : études
  • Authors: Corvisier (Jean-Nicolas), Talon (Guy)
  • Abstract: Patriotic before 14, popular literature served the war effort, spreading hatred of the Boche (Leroux, Leblanc). The war marked it until 1939, with both the memory of the conflict, and the surge in spy novels and novels of the fantastic. This was the same with novels of escape which, with a neater formal structure and more subtle psychological analysis (Benoîtor Vercel), evolved into the hard-hitting crime novel (Simenon) or the bitter satire (Chevalier).
