The correspondence between Romain Rolland and Henri Barbusse sheds light on the intellectual history of the twentieth century, in particular the anti-fascist, pro-Soviet mobilization, from the early days of the “Clarté” movement (1919) to the Amsterdam congress (1932) and the congress “for the defense of culture” (1935).
