This work examines the intertextuality of the two novelists by identifying the figure of a Dostoyevskyian “literary theorist” André Malraux. Reuniting philosophical, aesthetic, and formalist analyses enables a re-establishment of the essay on his novelistic demon that André Malraux never succeeded in finishing.
