Les Arts du spectacle dans la ville (1404-1721)

These studies examine the sociological, political, and symbolic changes in urban artistic performance from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the eighteenth century. With the emergence of the notion of public space, the field of the “spectacular” progressively expanded to society as a whole to better perpetuate the established order.
