L’Avenue de Paul Gadenne, un roman mystique ?

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Roman mystique, mystiques romanesques aux xxe et xxie siècles
  • Author: Lahanque (Reynald)
  • Abstract: In L’Avenue, Gadenne tells the story of a spiritual quest which merges with the artistic quest of a sculptor, a creator in the grip of doubts. He feels that his ideal of perfection involves his own moral progress, and that the completion of his work is only one step. While carving, but also while walking on an “avenue” bordered with strange constructions, he is tirelessly preparing himself to a “mysterious arrival” [“venue” in French]. Which invites to view Gadenne’s novel as a mystical novel.
