  • Abstract: Mystical aspirations and predilection for the sublime are at work in the Gidian world. Both are required by a specific approach of the relations between the body and the soul. This article proposes a lexical analysis of mystical in some of Gide’s novels, and a reading of the funeral eve of Passavant, focused on points of view and polyphonic enunciation. It seems then that expectation and desire of a mystical experiment lead to an obscure revelation of the mystery of alterity in the self.
