  • Abstract: Philip the Chancellor is known both as poet and preacher. We show, by studying samples from the monodic conductus Bonum est confidere, how this awareness of the effectiveness of sound is part of a device combining pleasure and persuasion. Then we see that Philip the Chancellor reinvests processes and knowledges seen in the analysis of its conductus in his sermons : in fact, the recurrence of words (blocks of assonances, echoes and repetitions in the manner of a refrain) may stake the time of the hearing of the sermon of benchmarks serving the persuasion.
