  • Abstract: Here we analyse the models of the liturgical games that took place between Christmas and the Epiphany from the 11th to the 12th centuries in Europe (as the Ordo Propherarum). To understand their function, not only in liturgical but also in preaching terms, we focused on one of their possible models : the Cena Cypriani (from the 5th century) that was acted out in Rome as a masquerade of biblical characters, linked with the liturgy of inversion in Cornomannia. It is during the imperial crowning of Charles the Bald in Rome on Christmas 875 AD, that these spectacular preaching and liturgy was staged.
