The construction of dissident masculinities through the practice of belly dance The example of Paulikevitch and Khansa

The artistic practice of Alexandre Paulikevitch and Khansa, two Lebanese belly dancers, profoundly questions archetypal gendered social constructs. Participating in a mainly feminine discipline, they assert the eroticization of their bodies, mixing lascivious positions, powerful movements, and the updating of certain clichés about masculinity. They thus create new masculinities that step out of the frame of heteronormativity.
