Female identity between social norms and emancipatory quest in Faḍīla al-Fārūq’s Iktišāf al-šahwa

Violating the taboos of sex and religion, Faḍīla al-Fārūq’s cause is the status and identity of women. Imprisoned in the domestic realm, the woman in her narrative is seen as a mere body, which becomes a terrain where different discourses on social practices, beliefs, and religious discourses merge. The body is a site of tension where she loses self-ownership and her identity, before becoming a site of affirmation and self-emancipation.
