This chapter aims to consider the transactions between cinema and writing in the novelistic work of Leslie Kaplan, particularly in the novel L’Épreuve du passeur (1988). It focuses on the scene of the café in order to explore how Kaplan’s writing operates a coming-and-going between collective and individual perspectives, becoming a complex space of communication and confrontation.
