In this work, Charles Péguy follows Joan of Arc, from the voices she heard in her childhood to the trial that ended with her being sentenced to death at seventeen. Here, she reemerges as a socialist, perhaps even an anarchist. The Joan presented here is in accordance with history, but she also appears as the author’s double, as he makes a masterly entry into literature at the age of twenty.
