This paper argues that in composing Lettre morte, French-Vietnamese writer Linda Lê was influenced by the letter form in Ingeborg Bachmann’s novel Malina. In her own postcolonial text Lê writes back to Bachmann as a literary precursor in a bid to solve Malina’s post-war dilemma of female entrapment.
