Le temps de la peine de mort
Une lecture des Réflexions sur la guillotine

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Camus et l’éthique
  • Author: Crépon (Marc)
  • Abstract: What Camus denounced with regard to the death penalty was a legalised mode of killing, made bearable by cunning representational tricks and a belief in the necessity and exemplarity of execution. Marc Crépon also explores how Camus and Derrida come together on the question of lethal justice : both reflect on its cruelty, the principle of revenge which underpins it, and the false reasoning according to which capital punishment does not need to be thought about in the present.
