Silences d’Assia Djebar

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Assia Djebar et la transgression des limites linguistiques, littéraires et culturelles
  • Author: Kirsch (Fritz Peter)
  • Abstract: Silence, in the narrations and the films of Assia Djebar is more than a background formed by patriarcal or colonial oppression and functioning as a starting point for the taking of the floor by the voices of rebels and, most of all, the voices of women. Similar impulsions can be found in the works of Marguerite Duras, novelist and film-maker situated in between France and Vietnam. Such a parallel is suggesting the existence of attitudes common to writers marked by intercultural situations.
