In spite of being a harsh criticism of the political, social and economic decline which went together with Independence in Ivory Coast, Kourouma’s novel Les Soleils des Indépendances was not meant to be a political work in the strict sense of the term. In the light of this, Kourouma’s writing appears to be an expression of violence which is inseparable from political and social issues. It is by reifying violence in his writing that Kourouma shows his political commitment.
