Résister à l’inhumain
La dynamique du sublime musical chez Herder

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: À la croisée des arts. Sublime et musique religieuse en Europe (xviie-xviiie siècles)
  • Author: Garda (Michela)
  • Abstract: Opposing himself to Kant, Herder resisted the modern aesthetic of the sublime fiercely and warned against the psychological and existential dangers arising from it. Resisting the inhuman – that is, a mistaken understanding of the sublime – consisted in cultivating a balanced relationship between humanity and the natural world, and between humanity, universe, and transcendence.
