The first issue of XXI/XX explores the subtitle chosen by the journal: “literary recognition”. This notion is foremost a poetic one. It involves fiction as such and the very idea of literature, its uses and the critical practice of readers. The journal describes what is central to literature today, while acknowledging the intimate strangeness that is beginning to separate the XXIth century from the XXth, according to a process by which the former recognizes itself in the latter as it moves away.
