Types of video game novels Casual, gamer, and indie literature

Based on a formalist study of the text and paratext of ten contemporary novels that represent video games, this article sets out to distinguish three genres within this literary output. The dynamic categories of casual, gamer, and indie literature show the points of contact between literary culture and video game culture, which fall sometimes under the heading of exchange and often under the heading of friction.
