The privileged dimension of the diary as a genre which is pathetic but also enables the expression of mourning even as it keeps silent is explored in this paper. The very practice of writing almost daily provides a certain measure of the experience of mourning, which makes Mourning Diary a personal document on its way toward becoming a work.
