This article approaches the matter of the cicerone side of Charles Swann: more than a bachelor of art, this character knows, like a writer, how to transmit an interest for what he talks about while communicating his vision. His use of erudition, however, set his discourses apart from those of the great creative geniuses. In Proust’s universe, the functions of artist and cicerone are pretty close, and the latter group can, when acting as professors of beauty, contribute to great art.
