The exaltation experienced by the narrator and Bloch in their youth has a different literary destiny for each of them, dependent on a certain idea of creation. Bloch, a talented author, a figure of Jewishness that cannot be assimilated by anti-Semites, appears as the representative of exaltation placed at the service of “false vocations”.
