This article aims to consider “La Messe de minuit” from a political point of view by seeking to understand the allegorical function of history represented in it. After examining the satirical way in which Bertrand criticizes the principle of charity in the footsteps of revolutionary thought, we consider the name “Chateauvieux” thanks to the mise en abyme performed by “Le Bibliophile.”
