Even in his translations or compilation works, Pierre Boaistuau (1517–1566) revitalized the literary genres he worked with. He was also an innovator of genres: his Histoires tragiques and Histoires prodigieuses are at the root of the literary genres that flourished in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
