  • Abstract: This article studies allusions made to the French Revolution during parliamentary debates in the early 2000s. In both well-polished speeches as well as during the heart of parliamentary debate representatives and senators are eager to quote the Revolution though not always very carefully so. They provide a lively testimony of the stereotypes circulating about the main figures of the Revolution, as well as an interesting sample of the ways in which Revolutionary events and figures can be re-appropriated and realigned along current political agendas.
