  • Abstract: Malebranche has been excluded from a history of Enlightenment radicalism, which means overlooking the fact that Malebranchism is a particular interpretation of Cartesian physiology, which, combined with the theory of the opacity of the fallen soul to itself, provides theoretical material for constructing various materialisms. It is in these terms that the paradox of consequences in Malebranche arises: it is because he wanted to christianize physiology that Malebranchism physiologized Christianity.
