Lambeaux de murs et de mots
La Grande Guerre de Giuseppe Ungaretti

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: La Grande Guerre des écrivains : études
  • Author: Violante (Isabel)
  • Abstract: For Ungaretti, an Italian who joined up voluntarily on the Austrian fronts, then the French, the war was an extreme and decisive experience: “I was born to poetry in the trenches”. Born in Alexandria to Tuscan parents, he grew up between languages but he invented a naked, hermetic poetry in order to express his cohesion with the soldiers and his nostalgic empathy for nature.
