The epistolary genre enjoyed great popularity in the sixteenth century, buoyed by the advent of the printing press. The publication of humanist letter collections helped to formalize the genre, whose conventions and protocols are analyzed here. This volume therefore looks to shed light on this epistolary tradition in all its rhetorical, social, and ideological dimensions.
