Fantastic literatures can be said to have an epic quality, through their archetypal heros and recurrent patterns borrowed from medieval (for fantasy) or classical (for SF) models. Within the latter, the Greek inheritance leads to musings about the hero, while the Roman one favors musings about the Empire.
