Faced with increasing competition from interactive, multimedia images, children’s picture books are seeking to renew their rapports with readers, notably through techniques of theatricalisation. The reader is encouraged to transform and “inhabit” the image. The image is thus free to take on a new look, creating a form of 'imprinted writing'.
