  • Abstract: Lyon’s “unique and exemplary” status has resulted as much from its capacity to evolve and assert itself as a European metropolis as from the existence of recurring obsessions which render its relations with national history and Paris difficult. These obsessions, linked to the unfortunate events that have littered the two thousand year history of the city, have led to a quest seeking to prevent these situations happening again.
