Tracing choreography? The dancer and the critic, Martha Graham and Edwin Denby

From a literary perspective, the article examines the capacity of verbal writing to leave a trace of the choreographic performance, by comparing two written versions of the same works: that of the dancer, Martha Graham, and that of the spectator and critic, Edwin Denby. This comparative study aims at highlighting the specificity of these authorial stances, and to show how this form of textual trace is based more on a sharing of experience than on a simple description of the dance proper.
