Sartre, Bost, Beauvoir Three “canards enchaînés” during the Occupation

From the outbreak of the Second World War, Sartre, Jacques-Laurent Bost, and Simone de Beauvoir corresponded regularly to make up for their being apart. In their didactic, comic, and satirical dimensions, the letters they wrote to each other greatly resembled Le Canard enchaîné, which they particularly enjoyed. The newspaper had to close down during the Occupation; for the trio, the exchange of letters became rarer or stopped altogether, but the writing continued in the form of fiction.
