The image is nothing but the Spirit orienting the body toward the outside world. And, in this sense, all the phenomena related to psychological life - thoughts, pains, joys - have the form of images. But this continual attempt at reconstruction is also a continual failure because we are trying to reconstruct this world of perception with a material qualitatively different from that of this world itself. The way we sense the “immediate object” is absolutely different from the way we perceive objects. This is what makes the image nonrepresentational.
