Critiques of solipsism and critique of the nation state in Habermas

Starting from the intersubjective relationship in language, Habermas opposes to the mentalism the philosophies of consciousness a paradigm of “understanding” (Verständigung). This paradigm rejects epistemological solipsism and, it can as well be used to replace the Hobbesian model of the “contract”. The focus is on Habermas’ critique of the modern nation-state : conceived by analogy with the Hobbesian individual of the state of nature, it can be the object of a political critique of solipsism.
