From the Reader to the Spectator Editing Practices and Boxing in Early Twentieth-Century French Illustrated Press and Cinema

Around the 1910s, speeches attest to a desire, from the illustrated press, to move closer to a "cinematographic model". This metaphorical rapprochement resorts to assemblages of photographs, a bold layout aimed at renewing the ways of reading the newspaper. At the front stage of this "paper revolution", sports magazines produced sequences of images that the reader scrolled through page after page, like images scrolling on the cinematograph screen.
