This article explores the state of the family portraits directed in the cinematic documentary field, especially Lluís Miñarro's Familystrip, a portrait of the filmmaker's parents made by the artist Francesc Herrero to perpetuate a memory. On the basis of the examples explored, the article seeks to define the essential features and characteristics of the works that move between the present and the past, between the private dimension of the images and their public use.
