The expression of Teresa’s conception of corporeality relies on a plural definition of the image. At the heart of mystical discourse, the fields of perception, the psyche, and language are inextricably bound together. We will investigate what it means to “translate” mental “images,” the complex status of Teresan metaphor, and the capacity of French translations to render the fluctuations and indecision found in the source text.
