In December 1856, Mérimée found himself in the South of France, temporarily withdrawing from his life in Paris and devoting himself, among other things, to watercolor. This study is a literary stroll around one of his watercolors, which was recently found in boxes from the Bibliothèque d’études de Besançon and had remained unknown until now. In this respect, we will explore the relationship Mérimée may have had with the Franche-Comté region, as well as with the famous Francs-Comtois with whom he may have come into contact.
