The proposed reading of L’Abbé Aubin takes as its starting point an intertextual game that is identifiable from the very beginning and that continues throughout the text in the form of explicit, but also, and above all, implicit allusions. This intense intertextuality offers the possibility of clarifying what can be understood by anticlericalism in a “story” that stages, not without irony, a singular couple.
