From the Narrenschiff to the French ships Translation and sermon

Sebastian Brant’s satire, the Ship of Fools, became known in several European countries soon after its publication in 1494. While such a commercial success was clearly generated by the printing press, its growing interest can also be attributed to the renewal of popular preaching. Evidence to this point is provided by Jodocus Badius’s Stultiferae naves, and a French adaptation by Jean Drouyn and the Anonyme de Marnef, La Nef des folles.
