This chapter offers a catalogue and a comparative analysis of the eight Spanish translations of La combe de l’homme mort (1833) that appeared in journals or collections between 1855 and 1997. Analyzing the different versions shows that variation is mainly found in the tone of the narration, which allows us to identify a certain evolution in the translation approach, primarily geared toward updating the narrative in order to maintain its fantastic effect on readers over time.
