La bataille d’Avalon
Enjeux et modalités d’un combat naval arthurien dans le Morgane de Michel Rio

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work

  • Author: Favéro (Véronique)
  • Abstract: Morgane (1999) is the second volume of Michel Rio’s Arthurian trilogy set in the fifth and sixth centuries. The novel contains an episode which seems fairly rare in both the medieval and the modern corpus: a sea battle. Morgane must fight against Claudas de la Terre Déserte, who tries to besiege the island where she established her small kingdom: Avalon. The island is a natural fortress and the first war described by Rio is the one the ocean wages on Avalon, waves and wind constantly eating away the land.
