John Gower, poète anglo-normand
Perspectives linguistiques sur Le Myrour de l’Omme

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Anglo-français : philologie et linguistique
  • Author: Ingham (Richard)
  • Abstract: Did John Gower adopt the traditional forms of Anglo-French ? Or did he modify them – as is often thought – to adapt to the established norms of standard written French ? A close analysis of phonetic, morpho-phonologic, and syntactical aspects of the language of Myrour de l’Omme reveals that this eminent representative of the last phase of Anglo-French literary tradition did not turn his back on the faus franceis d’Angleterre.
