The horrible is intrinsic to Cioran’s works. In the first writings in Romanian, it espouses the overwhelming lyricism of the young writer. The result is terrorist and apocalyptic thinking. In Syllogisms of bitterness, associated with a systematic search for the paradox, it becomes a source of aesthetic enjoyment. In the latest works, it expresses an authentic mystical quest.
