This paper studies the main periods of Alfred de Vigny’s literary creation (first poems, prose works, philosophical poems), as well as his years of silence (years of intensive reading and thinking), before focusing on his ethical reflection. Often showing contradictions on the issues of army, women or death penalty, it nevertheless reaches an achievement in writing, once it expresses a philosophy of inter-human becoming process.
