Embodying the link to technology Character dynamics in French conjectural novels

Based on the study of characters dynamics in French speculative novels, this paper studies the way the perception of technology has evolved during the 20th century, by analyzing how the way they have used the effet-prétexte has evolved, especially the tension between a fantasy of power and a fantasy of suffering. These texts mirror a contemporary literary scientific intertext (the science fiction macro-texte), in order to help to better perceive what is at stake with technological innovations.
