Task shifting as an aporia in the construction of professional jurisdiction The case of in-home care workers

Using both quantitative and qualitative data, this article examines in-home care workers' ability to occupy a distinct position in the social division of labour. It analyses the construction of these occupations as well as prescribed and real work, and highlights the fluid boundaries of their professional purview. In particular, this paper shows how the phenomenon of task shifting accounts for the difficulties in recognizing these professionals.
