Narrative and discursive issues for the play design of legends The case of mothertales

To what extent are legends and prophecies play designed in video games to establish a specific relationship between the audience-player and the game world? Drawing on Espen Aarseth’s quest theory and the corpus of mothertales, this article aims to study the persuasive character of legends in order to probe them both as video game discourses shaping a certain vision of the world and as elements in an unfinished narrative that the audience-player must then pursue.
