After a brief review of studies on Romain Gary's work since 2014, this introduction presents the various avenues explored in this volume in an attempt to articulate Gary's novelistic practice and what must properly be referred to as a theory of the novel, particularly around PourSganarelle, the writer's "metafictional novel".
